You don’t often hear the words “bowling” and “luxury” mentioned together. Add in “family,” and now you’re just speaking crazy-talk. But yes, it does exist. We’ve been there and it’s called High Rollers Luxury Lanes and Lounge at the Foxwoods Casino. Bowling in luxurious family-friendly conditions is as awesome as it sounds. Thanks to Greg and Wendy of Connecticut Bloggers for inviting us to check it out, and of course thank you to High Rollers Luxury Lanes and Lounge!
High Rollers Luxury Lanes and Lounge has it all when it comes to bowling. Don’t let the “High Rollers” part of the name intimidate or confuse you, it’s a clever play on words, but not a description of who can get in to play. Families are welcome any day of the week before 9pm. There’s even a great $40 for 4 deal on Family Sundays, but more on that later.
Outside the entrance of High Rollers Luxury Lanes and Lounge, it seems that you’ve an arrived at an intimate, upscale bar and lounge. Families, do not be deterred! Upon further inspection to the very left and very right of the facility, you’ll be greeted with gorgeously-decorated bowling lanes leading to enormous flat screen tvs. Cushy sofas, chairs, and personal table-service, or in this case “lane-service”, is just the icing on this luxurious bowling cake. Just a quick note, the left side of the bowling alley is for all ages until 9pm. The right side of the alley is for 21+. If you’re looking for a ladies night out, date night, or an adult get-together, we’d suggest reserving one of the lanes on the right side or make the reservation for after 9pm. You can bowl at anytime of course, but this is just a tip if you’re looking to get a little crazy! (see oversized cocktails on the drink menu )
On our Sunday afternoon visit, we were able to take advantage of the Family Sunday for 4 deal. For only $40, the package includes 2 games of bowling, shoe rental, 1 cheese pizza, a basket of fries, a pitcher of soda, and a bowl of ice cream for 4 people. When you break it down, you’re bowling 2 games and getting a full meal for $10 per person. It’s an amazing deal folks!
After admiring the lounge, we checked in at the front desk and rented our fancy bowling shoes. The shoes start at a toddlers size 4. Remember to wear or bring socks when you visit! But if you forget them, you can buy some extremely comfortable High Rollers socks at the front desk for $5. Therese can attest to the fact that they are one of the most comfortable pair of socks she’s ever owned.
High Rollers Luxury Lanes and Lounge is a state-of-the-art bowling facility. From the lane computers, floor to ceiling flat screen tvs, and the automatic bumpers that are programmed to come up for the players who request them at the start of the game, you know you’re not in your average bowling alley anymore.
Once everyone in our party had their shoes, a member of the front desk walked us to our assigned lane and provided us with drink and food menus. Our awesome waiter, Matt, immediately greeted us and took our drink orders, and provided us with some helpful information about the bowling alley (as we were all first-timers). He helped us set up our game in the lane computer, which included options to specify whether players were right or left-handed, and the ability to turn-on bumpers depending on the player.
Matt already knew we were there for part of the Family Sunday deal, and took our pitcher order. Choices included regular sodas, ice tea, and lemonade. He also asked if we wanted our basket of fries out first, which of course we all exclaimed, “YES!” I’m an intense french fries girl, and I’ll tell you that these were really good. First of all, they weren’t just a small basket of fries. They arrived in a large cone and were filled from bottom to top with freshly made french fries. They were perfectly crisp, not too salty, and tasted of delicious tender potato inside. Thankfully, most of our group only ate a few fries each, so I was able to help myself to a large portion and work to make sure the cone was completely empty before we left.
The cheese pizza came next. Topped with fresh basil leaves, this large pizza had a thin crust, just the right amount of cheese (which in my book is A LOT), and a nice sweet tomato sauce. The slices amounted to about 2 per person.
To end the meal, Matt brought out a giant bowl of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Each person had about 2 scoops. The sundae bar on the side was an add-on, but even without them I would have been perfectly happy. FYI – Sundae bar is TOTALLY worth it. Chocolate fudge and fresh whipped cream are heavenly.
We did order one item of the regular menu, the Buffalo Chicken Rangoons. Sound a bit strange? Not to worry, they taste awesome! Freshly fried wontons wrapped around buffalo chicken tenders, served on top of creamy blue cheese dressing. They were accompanied by a side of perfectly spicy buffalo sauce and crispy celery sticks. The taste of the fried wontons and buffalo chicken tenders make one believe they were meant to be together! Awesomely delicious. In between the talking, eating, and watching the music videos on the big screen, we bowled 2 complete games. No one bowled over 130, but I’m proud to say I did win the first game! You’re looking at a 115 right here!
The High Rollers Luxury Langes and Lounge is a great place for families, especially those with kids 5+. Although they welcome younger children, and have a rolling stand available for them to use, we think kids who are a little more independent and responsible would have a better time here. It’s a wonderful place to have a private family birthday celebration to make your older kids feel special. And for kids who are looking for something to do in between rounds, there’s an arcade with an air hockey table at the back of the lounge to keep them happy.
Don’t forget about all the other events High Rollers has to offer. Double Date Night for 4 on Fridays is a similar $40 deal that includes a pitcher of beer or bottle of wine. There’s also free bowling every Monday-Friday from 5-7pm. Also available are evening packages, perfect for a special ladies night out or bachelorette/bachelor parties.
Happy Bowling Everyone!
